North Vietnam, National Union Congress, May 1st, 1972, Michel Nr. 689-690; Two stamps in the nominals of 1 xu and 12 xu were issued perforated 11.0.

This is a postally used specimen of the 12 xu stamp on a piece. Note the much lighter orange color on this stamp as compared to the mint one above. This tonality is quite common on this issue. It is caused by the amount of color that is guided to the printing plate.

These stamps were not officially issued im-perforated however a number of imperfroate trial proofs have come to market. Here is the im-perforated set with top margins.

Rare multiple franking of the 1xu value covering the 6xu postcard postage to Hungary in December of 1974.

Very rare local single franking from Yen-The to Ha Bac from November 19th, 1974. Luc-Ngan arrival cancel on the reverse (November 21st, 1974). Most local letters were destroyed in the multi-decadal war, the tropical climate or recycling due to raw material shortages:

Here is the same franking but this time on a letter sent to Magdeburg, East Germany. This nicely shows that the domestic letter rate and the international letter rate to fellow socialist countries was identical.

Very rare military use of the 12 xu Union Congress stamp in February of 1975 from Phuong My (small post office) to a military address (note the Hom Thu number in the address line). The red cachet is from the “Peoples Security Police, Station K35, Military Mail”. The editor has never seen another of these red cachets on other mail. Full contents preserved. The letter was written by a girl from the China NVN border to her boy friend. Apart from the usual relationship writing she writes about the very cold winter.

Rare multiple franking of the 12xu value on an air-mail letter sent o a rehabilitation center in Karl Marx Stadt in East Germany paying a 1.32D tariff. East Germany assisted North Vietnam in treating its war wounded.

Very rare letter featuring the entire set plus im-perforated stamps of the Luna 9 and poisonous snake series sent to Klewitz in September of 1973. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 1.99 Dong which was probably in excess of the required tariff of 1.00 Dong for a standard express mail letter to West Germany. It was initially signed to be sent by registered mail (Tariff of 1.60 Dong) but that did not take place.  Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse.

Mixed franking on a rare registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in October of 1983. The letter features a block of four of the 1D Production and Defense stamps that show an over-inking of the green printing run, the two color versions off the Communist Party stamp and other NVN stamps for an overall postage of 18.50D (including the red free frank for 8.50D). Errors stamps on postal used cover are very rare. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Another very rare express mail letter sent to Klewitz in August of 1977. It carries some of the im-perforated dragon fly stamps plus other im-perforated pagoda and sculpture stamps. There is also the 1 xu national union stamp. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 1.95 Dong. Bad Nauheim transit and Fulda arrival cancels on the reverse.

Mixed franking on an air mail letter to Hungary in July of 1970 including one of the 12xu National Union stamps for an overall postage of 52xu.

Very rare express mail letter sent to Klewitz in August of 1977. It carries some of the im-perforated dragon fly stamps plus other im-perforated pagoda and orchid stamps. There is also the 12 xu national union stamp. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 2.20 Dong. Bad Nauheim transit and Fulda arrival cancels on the reverse.

Very rare large envelope sent to Klewitz in October of 1981. It features all three face color variations of the 12 xu Einstein value, a pair of 12 xu stamps without the black printing run. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There are also four of the union congress set on the back. The overall postage of this large shipment amounted to 18.50 Dong (including the 15.1 Dong red free frank). Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse. Green Fulda customs cachet on front.

Rare registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in October of 1981. It carries a number of the flower stamps including two fo the 10 xu stamps that show an up-side down double print of the yellow color. Errors stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There are also two of the black inscription variety of the 12 xu stamp. The overall postage amounted to 7.90 Dong. Fulda green custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz in April of 1982. The letter carries three of the Day of the Child stamps plus the National Union stamps for an overall postage of 8.22 Dong. Red hand stamp “franked by sender”. Unusual red cancels. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in June of 1982. The letter carries parts of the Bird of Prey and the Pigeon set plus other NVN stamp for an overall postage of 10.86 Dong (including the red free frank for 7.7 Dong). Union Congress set on the reverse. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.
