Unified Vietnam, International Day of the Environment, August 15th, 1982, Michel Nr. 1255-1256; Two stamps, both with a 30 xu nominal, were issued in perforation L11.

These stamps were not officially issued im-perforated, however, a small number of imperforate trial proofs have come to market. Below is such a set that was printed on waste paper.

A number of re-occuring plate errors have become known on this issue. Below is a mint block of four of the stamp with the symbol. The bottom right stamp shows the plate error of “dot and line inside the human symbol”.

Below are two mint pairs of the stamp. Both of them show various degrees of paper folds that affect all stamps:

Below are two mint blocks of four in a lighter and darker color shade. Both blocks contain the very same plate errors.  The first stamp shows a “disheveled small tree on the left”, the second stamp “hole in HCM’s pants”, the third stamp “apostrophe after xu” and the fourth stamp “small tree on the left losing leaves”.

International air mail letter sent in October of 1982 from Hanoi to Czechoslovakia. The letter carries the 30xu  Day of the Environment stamp plus the 1D Red Cross stamp for an overall postage of 1.30D.

Here is a very similar franking of 2.30D but this time made up of two 1D Year of the Child stamps plus one 30 xu Day the Environment stamp. The letter was sent in November of 1982 from Thanh Hoa Province to Czechoslovakia.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in February of 1984. The letter carries a pair of the HCM Environment stamp. There also is the entire Dimitroff set plus a very rare im-perforated trial proof of the 3 Dong Dimitrof value on which “Dong”is omitted. Trial proofs on postally used cover are almost unheard of. The overall postage amounted to 54.9 Dong. Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse. Green Fulda custom cachet on front. Unusual red cancels.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in November of 1982. The letter carries the Environment set plus other NVN stamps for an overall postage of 13.92 Dong (including the red free frank for 8 Dong). Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz. The letter carries two pairs of the Environment HCM stamp that feature a number of the plate errors described above. The bottom pair also shows a double perforation in-between stamps. There are also six of the 12 xu Lotus stamp that show the rare Post Master Perforation (14-15). Error stamps and post master perforations on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 14.42 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in October of 1983. The letter carries two sets of the Environment set in different color shades. The red HCM stamp (Communist Party set) shows on over-inking of the red color that partially obscures the nominal value and Buu Chinh. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There is also a pair of two military free franks issued in 1982. Military free franks were not valid for international postage due to their missing nominal value, however they appear to have ben accepted in this case. The overall postage amounted to 8.34 Dong (including the red free frank for 5.5 Dong).Green Fulda custom cacher on front.

Registered letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz in December of 1983. The letter carries a number of the Environment stamps in different color shades. The revers also carries the Karl Marx stamp in the rare color lilac-red. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 53.62 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front. The zero money red free frank was required to produce the R-label that came out of the same machine.

Registered letter setoff rom Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in December of 1983. The letter carries different color shades of both October Revolution stamps plus stamps from the Environment set  for an overall postage of 10.22 Dong (including the red free frank for 5 Dong”. Green Fulda custom cachet on the reverse.

Registered air mail letter sent in June of 1987 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the perforated National Assembly stamp set plus stamps from the Communist Party, WW II, Dimitroff, Bonsai, Rare Plants and Day of the Environment sets. The Communist Party,WW II and Dimitroff stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 7.90 oD =0.79 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (196 nD) plus the red free frank for 177 nD for 373.79nD. Fragment of the green Fulda custom cachet on front.
