North Vietnam, Vietnam Day, July 20th, 1959, Michel Nr. 104; A single stamp was issued to commemorate Vietnam-Day. The stamp is perforated 11:0. The 12 xu nominal covered the standard domestic letter rate. Here is the official Xunhasaba bulletin that announces the publication of the stamp.

Here are the mint and cancelled to order stamps

This is a postally used stamp. Postally used stamps are at least ten times rarer than cancelled to order stamps.

Below is a First Day Cover with a special FDC cancel that actually travelled through the mail as can be seen by the standard Hanoi date canceler that was also struck on the stamp.

Mixed franking of the 12Xu Phu Loi Massacre stamp together with the 6xu Sluice and 12xu Vietnam Day stamps paying an overall postage of 30xu on an in terminational air mail letter sent in August of 1959 from Hanoi toi East Germany.

Here is an interesting mixed currency franking mailed to Theo Klewitz in October 1959. It carries a single stamp of the Vietnam Day stamp. The Ho Chi Minh stamp of 60 Dong is in old currency that was now worth 6 xu, so the overall franking comes to 49 xu. This postage appears high given that the letter was neither sent registered nor Express but could be justified by heavier than normal contents. Klewitz often received stamp shipments from his contacts in Vietnam.

Here is a rather late usage of the Vietnam Day stamp in 1982 in a mixed franking (ex Klewitz). This cover carries a total of three individual specimens and other new currency stamps for a total of 119 xu or 1.19 New Dong.  A free frank of what appears to be 600 xu was added at the post office to meet the overall postal tariff of 719 xu Please note that the block of four of the 6 xu People Sport issue is grossly mis-perforated resulting in the lower two stamps missing the country name. The letter must have contained merchandise (i.e. stamps) as it was examined by the custom office in Fulda (West Germany) as can be seen by the green lower right hand stamp on the front f the cover.

Registered letter carrying the entire set plus one of the Vietnam Day stamps for an overall postage of 7.62 Dong. The zero money red free frank was required to produce the R-label that came out of the same machine.  Unusual sheet numbers on top of the selvage of all stamps in the set. Very rarely seen on cover. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Air mail letter that carries the 12 xu, 60 xu and 1 Dong Flower values im-perforated and was mailed to Klewitz in October of 1981. There are also two im-perforated 50 xu Farm Animal stamp on the reverse. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Late usage of the Vietnam Day stamp. The overall postage amounted to 2.84 Dong.
