South Vietnam, 2. Anniversary of Independence; National Assembly, October 26th, 1957, Michel Nr. SVN 145-150; Six stamps in nominals of 50c (Q:4,000,000), 80c (Q:2,000,000), 1D (Q:5,000,000), 4D (Q:2,000,000), 5D (Q:1,000,000) and 10D (Q:1,000,000) were issued in perforation 13:13.5. The stamps were valid postage until January 1st, 1964 when they became invalid.

These stamps were not officially released imperforate, however a small number of imperforate trial proofs have come to market.

Enpreuve de Luxe of the set. The stamps were produced by Giesecke & Devrient in Munich, West Germany as indicated on the reverse of the sheetlets.

A re-occuring plate error is known on all six nominals in the shape of a small square in the corner of the rectangular field with the hand. The error appears in in the C3 position of the sheet.

Note that the stamp on the most right shows the plate error “dot in the upper right corner of the book page”. The error occurs once per sheet in position C3 and in all six nominals. Plate errors on postally used covers are very hard to find.

Single franking of the 5D Anniversary of Independence stamp on an air mail letter sent from Cholon to the United States in August of 1958. The letter received a manuscript postage due notation that resulted in a hand stamp being struck upon arrival claiming an additional U.S. $ 0.21. This was collected by adding a U.S. free frank in that amount. New York arrival cancel on the reverse.
