Unified Vietnam, World Nutritional Day, January 28th, 1982, Michel Nr. 1197-1199; Three stamps in the nominals of 30 xu, 50 xu and 2 Dong were issued in perforation 11.0.

This issue shows significant color and in case of the 30 xu stamp paper variations. Below are two mint 30 xu stamps. The first one shows a “light-green” color and is printed on white paper. The second one is of “yellow-green” color and is printed on yellowish paper.

Here are two mint 50 xu stamps. The first one is of “grey-green” color while the second one shows a “blue-green” color:

Mint pairs of the 2 Dong value. The first one shows a “lightbrown-ochre” color while the second pair is of “yellow-brown” color. Both pairs also show a re-occuring plate error “deformed inscription on top”.

The entire set is subject to a number of production errors or flaws. Here is a pair of the mint 30 xu value (light-green on white paper) that shows a de-formed right edge with green color spilling over. The right stamps also shows the re-occuring plate error “dot in emblem circle”.

This set was not officially issued im-perforated but a few im-perforated trial proofs have come to market. Here is a very rare strip of five im-perforated 30 xu stamps that was specifically produced for presentation reasons (one can tell by the the wide selvage margins o the left and right).

Here is a single mint 30xu stamp that was inadvertently left imperforate on the bottom.

Exceedingly rare local letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Quan 5 (Cholon) that shows a imperforate trial proof used on a local cover. Imperforate trial proofs on postally used cover are basically unheard from because few of these proofs were released and virtually none were used as postage. Quan 5 arrival cancel (June 21st) on the reverse.

Single franking of the 50 xu value on a domestic letter sent from Vung Tau to HCM City in November of 1984.

Very unusual high inflation mass franking of the 50xu value (39) paying an overall postage of 19,50D which were first cancelled and then attached via a staple to the letter. Since the space was insufficient to show all stamps they were attached in layers. The letter was sent December of 1983 from Dong Lai Province to Switzerland. Grandson, Switzerland arrival cancel on the reverse.

Mixed franking of the World Nutrional Day set together with stamps from the Communist Party, Five Year Plan and Soccer sets paying an overall postage of 23,40D on a registered international air mail letter sent from HCM City to Hong Kong in August of 1982. Note that the right 50C Nutritional Day stamp shows the printing flaw “color stains in the women’s face”. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare.

Mixed franking of two Union Congress set together with stamps from the Communist Party, Doves,World Food Day and Reforestation sets paying an overall postage of 15.8D. The zero money free frank was required to produce the R-label as it came out of the same machine. The Communist Party stamps show various passer-shifts as well as different colors.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in September of 1983. The letter carries a block of six of the 2 Dong value. Three of the stamps show the plate errors “distorted d” (Field 19), “P instead of O in FAO” (Field 30) and “half-moon in emblem” (Field 39). Plate errors on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 14.16 Dong (including the red free frank of 4.16 Dong). Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in July of 1982. The letter carries one of the 2 Dong Nutritional Day stamps plus two of the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps that sho a very significant shift of the yellow printing phase. The letter also carries the rare post master perforations 14 and 15 of the 12 xu Lotus stamp. Error stamps and Post Master Perforations on postally used cover are very rare.The total postage amounted to 11.6 Dong (including the rare red free frank for 2.3 Dong created by DA3.1. Pitney Bowes-GB “6300”).

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai in March of 1983 to Klewitz. The letter carries the different color shades of the 30 xu and 50 xu stamps. There are also two military free franks issued in 1981. Military free-franks were not valid for international postage due to their missing nominal value but nevertheless were accepted by the postal clerk.  The overall postage of the letter (including the free franks which were worth 12 xu each) amounted to 10.24 Dong (including the red free frank of 50 xu). Very large registered letter sent from Nguyen Rai to Klewitz in June of 1982.  It carries a block of six of the red 30 xu stamp with horizontal double perforation of the lilac-red color variety and a pair of the same stamps in orange-red with the right stamp showing the “glass-eye” plate error on the right stamp. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. World Fodd Day stamps on the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 12.84 Dong. Faint green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in June of 1982. The letter carries all the perforated high values of the Football set. There are also four of the rare Post Master Perforation (15) of the Lots stamp on the reverse. Post Master Perforations on postally used cover are very rare. 2 Dong Nutritional Day stamp on the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 8.38 Dong . Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in May of 1982. It features a pair of the Militia stamps in the Post Master Perforations 9.5  (stamps on the left side) that shows the woman looking towards her right. The right pair in perforation 11 shows the woman looking straight ahead. The letter also carries four of the military free frank issued in 1976. Military free franks were not valid for international postage due to their lacking nominal value, however it appears that the postal clerk was not familiar with this regulation. Two 2 Dong World Food Day stamps on the reverse. The over-all postage amounted to 8.72 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in November of 1983. The letter carries a number of the Bulgaria stamp plus two blocks of four of the HCM Communist Party stamps in two color versions. The top right stamps in each block show the plate error of “left exe of HCM covered” and “right eye of HCM missing”. World Food Day stamps on the reverse. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 13.5 Dong (including the red free frank for 4.9 Dong). Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Very rare air mail letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz in May of 1983. The letter carries half of the im-perforated Harmful Insects set plus other NVN stamps for an overall postage of 5.2 Dong. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. 2 Dong World Food Day stamp in front.

Registered air mail letter sent in October of 1986 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries half of the perforated Space Flight set plus stamps from the Labor Day, United Nations, KPdSU, Traditional Houses and World Food Day sets. The World Food Day stamps were still denominated in old Dong. All other stamps were already denominated in new Dong. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to  4 oD =0.40 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (33D)  for 33.4 nD. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered air mail letter sent in December of 1985 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the Sport Games set plus stamps from the Asia Games (both color variations), Year of the Child, Vietnamese Laos Friendship, World Food Day, Communist Party, Peace Meeting and Provisional Overprint  sets for an overall postage of 140D (including the red free frank for 10D).
