Unified Vietnam, 40 Years Postal Union, August 30th, 1987, Michel Nr. 1825-1826; Two stamps with nominals of 5D and 30D were issued in perforation 13.

There are some color and paper variations on both values. Here is the 5D value in pink-carmine and carmine red.

The editor possesses a mint sheet 100 stamps without sheet margins. According to Klewitz the margins were already removed by the post office. On this sheet the small passer crosses that can be observed on this issue were no longer present. The suggests that the printing plate was re-touched for a later printing. Below are three stamps from this sheet.

Registered air mail letter sent in February of 1988 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries a block of four of the 5D Postal Union stamps plus stamps on which the the top right stamp shows the plate error “small passer mark at top right of the stamp”. There are also stamps from the Butterflies (imperforate) Cacti, Italia Stamp Exhibition and Animals and Plant sets. Error stamps and imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Animals and Plant stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 15 oD =1.5 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (80 nD) plus the red free frank for 1,185 nD for1,266.5 nD. Fragment of the green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries the Postal Union stamps in different color variations plus stamps from the Wale, Cacti, Paracel and Spratley Island and Animals and Plant sets. The Animals and Plant stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 0.5 oD =0.05 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (239 nD) plus the red free frank for 1,045 nD for1,284.05 nD. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter the entire perforated Butterflies set plus stamps from the Prehistoric Animals, Postal Union, Year of Peace, HCM Birthday (imperforate souvenir-sheet) and Intercosmos (souvenir-sheet) sets.  Imperforate stamps or souvenir-sheets on postally used cover are very rare. The Prehistoric Animals, Intercosmos and HCM Birthday stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to  23 oD =2.3 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (59 nD) plus the red free frank for 1043 nD for 1,104.3 nD.

The letter carries pairs of the perforated and imperforate Hanoi Air Attacks set plus stamps from the Postal Union, Tourism and HAFNIA Airplanes (including the souvenir-sheet) sets for an overall postage of 1,512 (including the red free frank for 1,152D). The letter carries a sets of the Cambodian National Day stamps plus stamps from the Water Lilies (imperforate), INDIA Stamp Exhibition, Postal Union and Off-shore Oil Production sets for an overall postage of 6,525D (including the red free frank for 3,715D). Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare.

The letter carries three sets of the French Revolution I set plus stamps from the Fishing Boats, Postal Union and Hydro Stations for an overall postage of  9,410D (including the red free frank for 5,465D). Registered air mail letter sent in April of 1988 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the perforated German Railway souvenir-sheet in both color variations plus stamps from the Elephant, Communist Party, Motorcycles, Postal Union, Paracel and Spratly Island, Cacti and Manned Space Flight (souvenir-sheet) sets. There is also the military free frank issued in 1981 that was not allowed for international postage but apparently was accepted by the postal clerk nevertheless. Imperforate stamps and souvenir-Sheets on postally used cover are very rare. The ARGENTINIA stamps  were still denominated in old Dong while the other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to October 13th were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 2 oD = 0.2 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (154 nD) plus the red free frank for 2,835 nD for 2,989.2 nD. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.
