Unified Vietnam, Fish, January 20th, 1988, Michel Nr. 1896-1902; Seven stamps with nominals of 5D, 10D, 15D, 20D, 25D, 30D and 40D were issued in perforation 12.75 and imperforate. The January issued date reported by Michel may not be correct as there are First Day Covers (ex Klewitz) that show a September 15th, 1987 release date.

Stamps sold at Vietnamese post offices were sold without gum while stamps sold by the official Vietnamese stamp agency were sold with gum.

The red cancel shows the erroneous date of October 15th, 1983 while the red free frank in front shows the correct date of December 15th, 1988. The letter carries both printings of the 4D value and a number of the imperforate Fish set values from 1988. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 5,232.70D.

Registered express air mail letter sent in October of 1988 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the Union Congress set plus stamps from the Red Cross (including one imperforate), Fish (imperforate), Ocean Creatures, Roses, Le’ Lo’i (imperforate) sets.  Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare.  The Ocean Creature stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to  9 oD = 0.90 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (386 nD)  and the red free frank for 4,691D for 5,077.9 nD.

Registered air mail letter sent in December of 1988 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries perforated USSR Friendship stamps plus stamps from the Cacti (imperforate), Hydro Stations, Fish (imperforate), STOCKHOLMIA Birds (souvenir-sheet), HAFNIA Airplanes (imperforate) and Hai Phong Liberation sets. The Hai Phong Liberation stamps shows a severe passer-shift. Error-, imperforate stamps and souvenir-sheets on postally used cove are very rare.  The Hai Phong Liberation stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing.
