North Vietnam, Domestic Crafts, July 5th, 1968, Michel Nr. 538-543; Stamps printed on their edge were all the rage with stamp collectors in there 1960s and so North Vietnam joined the “band wagon” by using this printing technique by issuing six stamps. The stamps came in the nominals of 6 xu, 12 xu (two stamps), 20 xu, 30 xu and 40 xu. They were issued perforated 12.0 and imperforate.

Here is the perforated set.

Mint imperforate set in blocks of four:

Rare single ranking of the yellow 12 xu stamp on a letter from October of 1969 to Hungary.

Air Mail postcard sent from Lang-Son to Hungary featuring the 6 xu Domestic Craft plus one 40 xu 3,000 Aircraft Shot down stamp for an overall postage of 46 xu.

Mixed franking of the 12 xu Handicraft stamp together with stamps from the Ballistic Missile, Revolution and SVN Home and People sets for an overall postage of 74 xu on an international letter sent from Hai-Phong to Switzerland in 1970.

Mixed franking of all three 12 xu Folk Dance stamps together with the 60xu Child Games and 12xu Domestic Handycraft stamps paying an overall postage of 1.08D on an international air mail letter sent to East Germany in May of 1975.

Mixed franking of the 12xu, 20xu and 40xu Folk Dance stamps together with the 12xu and 20xu Domestic Craft stamps paying an overall postage of 1.04D on an international air mail letter sent from Nigh-An to East Germany in May of 1975.

Mixed franking of the 30xu Domestic Craft stamp together with 12xu 1st Five Year Plan and 150D Bay of Ha Long stamp that was still denominated in Old Dong. The latter was devalued by 1,000:1 which means it was only worth 15xu at the time of mailing. The overall postage amounted to 57xu in a mixed currency franking. The standard air mail rate to Western countries like Denmark was only 50xu so the letter was over-franked by 7xu.

Air mail letter sent from Hanoi to Budapest, Hungary in June of 1969 (?) using one of the 40xu Domestic Craft stamps plus sone 12 xu Shell stamp for an overall postage of 52 xu.

Mixed franking of the 50xu Engels stamp with other NVN stamps (including the 20xu Domestic Craft stamp) for an overall postage 1.78D on a registered air-mail letter to Paris, France in 1973.

Very rare express mail letter featuring two of the im-perforated 12 xu and one of the 20 xu stamps sent to Klewitz in June of 1969. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall franking of the letter was 1.70 Dong which was in excess of the required tariff of 1.00 Dong (50 xu base rate, 50 xu express mail fee). The letter was initially franked to be sent by registered mail  which would have required an overall postage of 1.60 Dong.

Very rare express mail letter franked with the im-perforated 6 xu, 30 xu and 40 xu stamps sent to Klewitz in June of 1969. Im-perfroated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall franking of 1.88 Dong which also included the entire im-perforated Tito set was most likely over-franked (required tariff for a standard letter was 1.00 Dong). The letter was initially franked to be sent by registered mail  which would have required an overall postage of 1.60 Dong.

Rare express mail letter mailed to Klewitz in March of 1976 carrying one of the im-perfroated 40 xu stamps plus various im-perfroated issues of previous series. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall franking amounted to 2.88 Dong which appears to be in excess of the required postage for a standard express mail letter to West Germany (Tariff of 1.00 Dong).
