Unified Vietnam, Ton Du’c Thang, August 20th, 1988, Michel Nr. 1934; Ton Du’c Thang was a revolutionary and statesman that was born in 1988. Like Ho Chi Minh he lived in France for a while (1912-1920) but later acted as a revolutionary in Saigon. He was imprisoned in Poulo-Condor for 20 years. After 1946 he occupied important functions in the Communist Party and the Union. He became president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1969 and later president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1976-1980). A single stamp with a 150D nominal was issued in perforation 12.75:13.

The letter carries the Ton Du’c Thang stamp cancelled with the official First Day Cancel  plus two tete-beche pairs of the Newspaper stamp. Registered air mail letter sent in March of 19889 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the perforated  stamps from the Locomotives set plus stamps from the Child Immunization, Cooperation with USSSR, Interior Ministry Troops, Ton Du’c Thang, Hydro Stations and USSR Peace Treaty sets. There is also the military free frank issued in 1986. The Cooperation with USSR stamps are present in both color variations. The Cooperation with USSR and Interior Ministry Troop stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 36 oD = 3.6 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (2,641 nD) plus the red free frank for 3,960 nD for 6,604.6nD. Fragment of the green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Ocean Fish stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 1.04 oD = 0.10 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (3,490 nD) plus the red free frank for 3,720 nD for 7,210.1nD.
