Unified Vietnam, Roses, January 1st, 1980, Michel Nr. 1073-1076; Four stamps were issued with nominals of 1 xu, 2 xu and 12 xu (two stamps).

Small printing errors do occur. Below is a mint block of four of the 2xu stamp on which the bottom left stamp shows a red colored object on the flower. This probably happened due to a small object that had fallen onto the printing plate.

Here is a perforation error on a used pair of the 2xu stamp that is im-perforated horizontally in-between stamps.

Rare registered letter sent from Quang 5 (Cholon) in January of 1982 to Klewitz. It features most of the Roses set.  The overall postage (which includes two red free franks for a postage of 6.30 Dong) amounted to 7.85.

Very rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in May of 1980. It carries the Stamp Exhibition set plus the 12 xu Einstein stamp without the black printing run. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There is also a 12 xu Roses stamp. The overall postage amounted to 4.94 Dong. Hannover-Frankfurt train transit and Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse. Green Fulda custom cancel on front.

Registered letter sent to Klewitz in July of 1984. The letter carries a number of the Year of the Cild stamps plus one of the Roses stamps for an overall postage of 9.64 Dong (including the red 2.40 Dong free frank). Unusual red HCM City cancel. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Rare registered express mail letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to West Germany in August of 1980. It features the 6 xu and 12 xu post master perforation stamps alongside some other NVN stamps. It also carries a 3 Dong National Liberation Front (Vietcong) stamp issued in 1970.  These stamps were denominated in South Vietnamese Dong and hence not valid for postage in North Vietnam. Nevertheless the postal clerk appeared to have been unaware of the fact and accepted the stamp as postage. There is also one of the 12 xu Roses stamps. The overall postage (with the 3 Dong NLF stamp) amounted to 4.39 Dong. Frankfurt-Bebra train transit cancel and Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse. Green Fulda custom cachet on front. Unusual hand-made express mail label.

Registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in August of 1981. It carries a strip of five of the Lotus stamp (Perf. 11.0), a single Lotus stamp on white paper (Post Master Perf. 9.5) and a pair of the Lotus stamp on yellowish paper (Post Master Perf. 9.5). There is also a strip of five of the 1978 Flower series with the most right stamp missing the name of the designer at the bottom. 2 xu Rose stamp on the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 8.24 (including the free frank for 5.90 Dong). Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter featuring a large number of stamps from the Flower sets of 1980 sent in August of 1981 to Klewitz. Five Rose stamps on front and back. The overall postage amounted to 8.20 Dong (including the free frank of 5.6 Dong on the reverse). Unusual red cancellation. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz in November of 1981. It features both color variations of the 50 xu KPdSU stamp plus some of the Roses stamps for an overall postage of 8.20 Dong. The zero money red free frank was required to produce the R-label that came out of the same machine. Red “Franked by Sender” hand stamp. Unusual red cancels. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Very large registered letter sent from Nguyen Rai to Klewitz in June of 1982.  It carries a block of six of the red 30 xu stamp with horizontal double perforation of the lilac-red color variety and a pair of the same stamps in orange-red with the right stamp showing the “glass-eye” plate error on the right stamp. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare.  Rose stamps in front and back. The overall postage amounted to 12.84 Dong. Faint green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered air mail letter sent in October of 1984 from Quan 5 to Klewitz. The letter carries pairs of the 50xu and 20D Peace Meeting stamps in pairs plus other contemporary NVN stamps (including the Rose set) for an overall postage 51.13D. Partial green Flda custom cachet on front.

Registered air mail letter sent in September of 1987 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries half of the perforated Space Flight set plus stamps from the Roses, Prehistoric Animals and Day of the Invalid  sets. The Prehistoric Animals stamps are imperforate. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Rose and Prehistoric Animal were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to  5.04 oD =0.50 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (21D) and the red free frank of 548D for 569.50nD.

Registered air mail letter sent in November of 1987 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries stamps from the Rare Plant, Year of the Cat, October Revolution and Roses sets. The Rose stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 4.48 oD =0.45 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (76 nD)  plus the red free frank of 493 nD for 569.45nD.
