Apart from the issued imperforate stamps a very small quantity of imperforate trial proofs that lack the imprint of the year “1984” on the top right of each stamp. These individual imprints were produced for presentation purposes to allow postal authorities to view the proposed stamps and allow for potential changes prior to printing.

International air mail letter sent from Hanoi to Czechoslovakia. The letter carries the 10D Vietnamese Painters stamp plus the 3D Orchid stamp paying an overall postage of 13D in May of 1985.
Registered air mail letter from August of 1985 that features four of the 50xu Union Congress set stamps that shows a partial failure of the black printing run. There is also a mis-perforated 5D Liberation of Hai Phong stamp. Error stamps on petal used cover are very rare. Orchid set stamps on the reverse. Registered air mail letter sent in August of 1985 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries eight of the 50xu Union Congress stamps. The strip shows a veryhorizontal double perforation strike plus the two Vietnam, Laos Cambodia Friendship stamps show plate errors. Errors stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Orchid stamps on the reverse. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 243.8D (including the red free frank for 216D). Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries the smaller imperforate souvenir-sheet (8.0×8.0) plus stamps from the Dien Bien Phu, Orchid and Friendship between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia sets for an overall postage of 51.0D(including the red free frank for 14.5D). One of the Union Congress stamps shows the plate error of “missing clouds”. Imperforate and error stamps on postally used cover are very rare.

The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. This was true for all stamps on the cover. There are also two of the military free franks from 1981 that were technically not allowed for international postage but were apparently tolerated by the postal clerk. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date (i.e. all the stamps on this cover) were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. Registered air mail letter sent in November of 1985 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the perforated souvenir-sheets of the Argentina Stamp Exhibition (9.6×7.9 cm) and HCM Birthday, plus stamps from the HCM Birthday (Imperforate), Orchids, Harmful Insects, Peace Meeting and Hanoi Liberation sets. Souvenir-Sheets and imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. All stamps on the cover are still denominated in old Dong. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing.
