There is some tonality on the stamps and souvenir-sheet. Below are two souvenir-sheets with the left sheet showing a lighter red printing run while the right sheet shows a darker red printing run.

Registered air mail letter sent in November of 1987 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the entire October revolution stamp set plus stamps from the National Assembly, Water and Mountain Spirit and Manned Space Flight sets for an overall postage of 547D (including the red free frank for 290D). There was also one military free frank that was technically not valid for international postage but apparently was nevertheless accepted by the postal clerk. Registered air mail letter sent in November of 1987 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the October Revolution souvenir-sheet plus stamps from the National Assembly, Communist Party, Water and Mountain Spirit, Butterflies, Humane Living and Vietnamese-Soviet Peace Agreement sets for an overall postage of 569D (including the red free frank for 383D). Registered air mail letter sent in February of 1988 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries a pair of the October Revolution souvenir-sheets plus stamps from the October Revolution, Cacti, Insects (souvenir-sheet) and  Animals and Plant sets.  The top October Revolution souvenir-sheet shows the plate error of “dot under O of MUOI”.  The bottom October Revolution souvenir-sheet shows the dark green printing run. Error stamps and souvenir-sheets on postally used cover are very rare. The Animal and Plant  stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 7 oD =0.7 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong ( 395 nD) plus the red free frank for 2,014 nD for 2,409.7 nD. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered air mail letter sent in December of 1987 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries a pair of the Humane Living stamps plus stamps from the Water and Mountain Spirit, Old Ships, October Revolution and  Day of the Child sets.   The Day of the Child  stamp was still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 5 oD =0.5 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong ( 133 nD) plus the red free frank for 1,110 nD for 1,243 nD. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries the other half of the perforated Fish set plus stamps from the Wales, CSSR-Vietnamese Friendship (Imperforate), October Revolution and Cham Culture sets for an overall postage of 1,376D (including the red free frank for 900D). The letter carries one perforated Rose stamp and  the souvenir-sheet plus stamps from the Vietnam-CSSR Cooperation (imperforate), October Revolution, Cacti, Soccer World Cup and Motor Cycles sets. The Motor Cycle stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  Souvenir-Sheets and imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing.
