South Vietnam, 3 Years Republic, October 26th, 1958, Michel Nr. SVN 160-163; Four stamps in nominals of 1D, 2D, 4D and 5D (Q:1,000,000 sets) were issued in perforation 13.5. The stamps were valid postage until January 1st, 1964 when they became invalid.

These stamps were not officially released imperforate, however, a small number of imperforate trial proofs have come to market. Here are three pairs of them.

Rare multiple franking of the 2D value (7) paying an overall postage of 14D on an international air mail letter sent from Saigon to the United States in June of 1959.

Mixed franking of three 3D overprinted UPU stamps together with the 2D 3 Years Republic stamp paying an overall postage of 11D on a registered international letter sent from Saigon to France in February of 1959.

Mixed franking of the 2D  “3 Years Republic” stamps (3) plus two 50c Sisters Tru’ng paying an overall postage of  7D on an international air mail letter sent from Saigon to France in July of 1959.

Very rare express mail letter sent in March of 1959 from Saigon to the United States. The letter features three of the 4D Children’s Day stamps plus stamps from the 3 Years Republic and 50c National Assembly sets paying an overall postage of 15D. Not many express mail covers from that time survive. Various U.S. transit ans arrival cancels on the reverse.
