North Vietnam, Theater of War North Vietnam, December 19th, 1967, Michel Nr. 499-504; With the progression of the war and the fiercer and fiercer attacks by U.S. troops the stamp themes also became increasingly martial. A set depicting North Vietnam Army soldiers and weapons were issued in the nominals of 12 xu (four stamps), 20 xu and 30 xu in perforation 12.0.

Here is the mint set in blocks of four:

Mixed franking sent by Renault Engineering to France in 1976 using one of the 20 xu Theater of War stamps plus some other stamps from the time period featuring an overall franking of 1.82D

Here is a very rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz featuring the entire set. The overall franking amounted to 1.50 Dong which appears to be a bit shy of the required tariff for a standard registered express mail letter to West Germany (50 xu base rate, 60 xu registration fee, 50 xu express mail fee). Nevertheless it was transmitted without any penalties. Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse.

Rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in April of 1969 featuring two of the 12 xu and one of the 20 xu stamps. The overall franking amounted to 1.48 Dong which appears to be 12 xu shy of the required tariff for a standard  registered express mail letter to West Germany. However this was not noticed by the postal clerk and the letter was transmitted without any assessment of postage due. Interesting rail transit cancel and Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse.

Rare express mail letter featuring one of the 30 xu stamps from the set and sent to Klewitz in July of 1971. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 1.62 Dong which was tad above the required tariff of 1.60 Dong for a standard registered express mail letter to West Germany. Transit and Arrival cancels on the reverse.
