Domestic letter (full content preserved) sent in July of 1974 from Nam Dinh to HCM City. Two different machine HCM City arrival cancels on the reverse.

Rare local letter sent within Hanoi using the 12 xu orchid stamp in March of 1977. It is not clear why the sender did not avail himself/herself the reduced 6 xu intra-city rate.

Another rare local letter using a single fo the 12xu Orchid stamps and sent from Hanoi to Saigon in July of 1976. Red official seal on the reverse.

Rare multiple franking of the 12xu Orchid stamp paying the second weight level on a letter sent from Hanoi to Saigon in March of 1977. HCM City machine arrival cancel on the reverse.

Multiple franking of the 12 xu Orchid stamp (2) paying an overall postage of 24xu on a domestic letter sent from Hanoi to HCM City in April of 1977. HCM City arrival cancel on the reverse.

Mixed franking using two of the orchid stamps (The 12xu value with the country name “Vietnam”) paying an overall postage of 2.60D on a letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Paris, France in 1977.

Rare express mail letter sent to Klewitz in March of 1979. The letter carries the set plus a similar 12 xu orchid stamp from the subsequent series issued in 1977. The overall postage amounted to 4.81 Dong. On December 1st, 1976 postage rates to foreign destinations changed significantly in Vietnam. The basic rate to Europe amounted to 1 Dong but there was also the 60 xu international registration fee and the 50 xu express mail fee. Furthermore there was an air-mail surcharge that cost 40 xu for every 5 grams of weight. This letter hence must have weighed around 20 grams.

Rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in September of 1980. It carries a variety of NVN stamps including the Orchid set. Green Fulda custom cachet on front. Hand -made Express Label.

Mixed franking of three of the October Revolution stamps tighter with other NVN stamps (including the 6xu Orchid stamp) paying an overall postage of 2.08D on an air-mail letter to Paris, France in 1978.

Mixed franking of a pair of the 1xu Poland stamp together with the 12xu Final Victory and 6xu Orchid stamp paying an overall postage of 3.90D (including the 3.70D red free frank) on a letter from July of 1977 to France.

Mixed franking of two of the Orchid stamps (one with the country name “Vietnam”) together with the 12xu Aircraft Shot Down stamp paying an overall postage of 2.60D (including the red free frank of 2.30D) on a letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Paris, France in 1977.

Registered air mail cover sent as a mixed currency franking in November of 1995 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the Betel Nut sheetlet plus stamps from the Thanh Giong, Alpine Rose, Orchids and Day of the Stamp sets. The Orchid stamps from 1977 were still in old Dong. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to  0.18 oD = 0.02 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (15,150 nD)  and the red free frank for 3,300D for 18,450.02nD.
