North Vietnam, 10 Years National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, December 20th, 1970, Michel Nr. 645-646; Two stamps, one with a 6 xu nominal and one with a 12 xu nominal were issued perforated 11.0.

Here is the mint perforated set:

These stamps were not officially issued im-perforated, however a handful have im-perforated trial proofs have come to market. Rare.

Very rare express mail letter sent to Klewitz in August of 1974. It carries the entire set plus an im-perforated 1.00 Dong stamp of the bananas set. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 1.48 Dong which was in excess of the required tariff od 1.00 Dong for a standard 20 gram express mail letter to West Germany.

Very rare registered express mail letter mailed to Klewitz featuring two of the 6 xu stamps and one 12 xu stamp. The letter also bears the 30 xu im-perforated domestic bird set from 1966. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage of 1.66 Dong was just a tad above the required tariff for a standard 20 gram registered express mail letter to West Germany.

Rare multiple franking of the 6 xu stamp on a local letter with a patriotic theme from Uong-Bi to HCM City on February 26th, 1977.

Rare multiple franking of the 6 xu stamp on a international air mail letter sent from Hanoi to Czechoslovakia in 1972.

Single franking of the 12xu value on a letter from Hai Phong to Hanoi mailed in August of 1971. Hanoi arrival cancel on the reverse.

Rare express mail letter sent from Bac Lieu to Klewitz in March of 1979. It carries a number of the flower stamps but also four of the National Liberation Front (NFL) stamps. There is also the National Liberation Front set. Two of the stamps (First Meeting of the Unified National Assembly) were already issued based on the North Vietnamese currency which made them eligible for postage in the North, however, the 30 Dong flag stamp and the 30 Dong Ho Chi Minh stamp which were still in the old South Vietnamese currency were not officially allowed for postage and should not have been recognized. Ignoring the invalid 30 Dong stamp the overall postage amounted to 4.97 Dong. Fulda custom cachet on front.

Mixed franking of two of the 50xu Thu’o’ng and other 1970’s NVN stamps (including the 6xu NLF stamp) together with the 2,000D Handicraft stamp from 1958 on a registered Xunhasaba mailing. The Handicraft stamp was denominated in Old Dong which were devalued by 1,000:1 on March 1st, 1959 and so was only worth 2 Dong at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 3.38D.

Mixed franking using the 12xu Young Pioneer stamp (the stamp is not cut but wrapped around the envelope) together with the 1D 25 Years of Democratic Republic stamp and the 6xu National Liberation Front stamp for an overall postage of 1.18D on a latter to Paris, France.

Registered air mail letter sent in November of 1985 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries three imperforate values of the HCM Birthday set plus stamps from the NLF, Hanoi Liberation and Friendship Contract sets for an overall postage of 109.72 oD. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date (i.e. all stamps on this cover) were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 109.72 oD = 10.97 nD. plus the red free frank for 12 nD or 22.97 nD. Fragment of the green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Very interesting mixed franking of National Liberation Front (NLF) and North Vietnamese (Unified Vietnam) stamps on a triple mixed currency cover mailed in May of 1986 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. NLF stamps were not valid in the North until reunification in April of 1986. After that the NLF stamps that were denominated in South Vietnamese Dong became valid but were devalued by 500:1. This means that the four 30D stamps (Michel Nr. NLF 64) were only worth 0.24 nD. The North Vietnamese/Unified Vietnam stamps issued prior to the currency reform on September 14th, 1985 (i.e. Sun Flower, Intercosmos, Hai Phong Liberation) were devalued by 10:1 so only worth 11.26 oD : 10 = 1.13 nD. at time of mailing. Together with stamps in new Dong (Le’ Lo’i and National Assembly stamps) for 4.5D and the red free frank of  34.5 nD the overall postage of the letter amounted to 40.37 nD. There is also one military free frank from 1984 that was not valid for international postage but that was nevertheless accepted by the postal clerk. Registered air mail letter sent in June of 1986 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries a mix of stamps denominated in old Dong (Communist Party, Cacti, Liberation of Hai Phong, National Liberation Front) and new Dong (National Assembly Labor Day). The two National Assembly stamps on the reverse both shows the plate error of “broken jacket line on HCM#s left side. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to  17.12 oD =1.71 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (7D) plus the red free frank for 24D for 32.71 nD. Fragment of green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered air mail letter sent on June 17th, 1989 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries perforated World Cup stamps plus stamps from the Hydro Stations, Off-shore Oil Production, Children Drawings and 10 Years National Liberation Front sets. The 10 Years National Liberation stamp  was still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 0.12 oD = 0.01nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (4,850 nD) plus the red free frank for 5,460 nD for 10,310.01 nD. Fragment of the green Fulda custom cachet on the reverse.
