Rare registered express mail letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in March of 1981. The letter carries six stamps from the Fish plus other NVN stamps. There also is a military free frank that was issued in 1973 (in the rare version with perforation 12.5). Military free franks were not valid for international postage due to the fact that they did not carry any nominal value. Nevertheless it appears that the postal clerk accepted the stamp with a face value of 12 xu (which corresponded to the standard domestic letter rate). The overall postage amounted to 4.80 Dong. It carries a strip of five of the Lotus stamp (Perf. 11.0), a single Lotus stamp on white paper (Post Master Perf. 9.5) and a pair of the Lotus stamp on yellowish paper (Post Master Perf. 9.5). There is also a strip of five of the 1978 Flower series with the most right stamp missing the name of the designer at the bottom. Three 20 xu Fish stamps on the reverse. Stamp with sheet numbers on postally used cover are rare. There are also there of the Lotus stamps with post master perforations of 14 and 15 (yellowish paper) and one with perforation 15 (white paper). 20 xu and 40 xu Fish stamps on the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 8.32 Dong.

Registered air mail letter sent February of 1989 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries perforated stamps from the Locomotives set plus stamps from the National Assembly, Hydro Stations, Newspaper, Ton Du’c Thang and Ocean Fish sets. The Ocean Fish stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 1.04 oD = 0.10 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (3,490 nD) plus the red free frank for 3,720 nD for 7,210.1nD.

The Ocean Fish stamps from 1980 were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong. The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing.
