Here is a perforation error on a pair of the 6xu value that shows a double perforation strike in-between the stamps.

A few printing or color errors are known on this issue. Here is a mint 1 D stamp from the bottom right margin that shows a significant passer shift of the light brown color resulting in the top line being partially invisible.

Very rare  registered express mail letter sent from Hue to Klewitz in March of 1978. It carries the 2 xu, 6 xu, 50 xu and 1 Dong Total Liberation stamps including the very rare “Upside Down Tank” error. This error was created by an upside-down print run of the blue color that was erroneously carried out. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Overall postage amounted to 5.15 Dong. Rare local letter featuring one of the 6xu Total Liberation stamps plus one of the 12xu Flower stamps from 1978 paying the local tariff of 18xu that was in force at that time. The letter was sent from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in June of 1978. Note that the “7” is missing in the Hanoi cancel. Two HCM City machine arrival cancel on the reverse.

Air mail letter sent from Quang Ninh to Budapest, Hungary in July of 1978. The letter carries a mixed franking of 1.02D made up of one of the 50xu Total Liberation stamps, 12 xu Flower stamp and 40xu Production and Struggle stamp.

Letter sent by the United Nations Office in Hanoi to Borgerhout Belgium in November of 1978 featuring five of the 1D and one 50xu Total Liberation stamps. Together with the 50xu Communist Party Congress stamp the postage for the large envelope amounted to 5.90D.

Postcard sent in December of 1978 to Budapest, Hungary paying 80xu made up of the 50xu Total Liberation stamp plus the 30xu Plant stamp.

Very rare registered letter featuring two of the 12xu Einstein stamps (one without the black print run) in a mixed franking with other NVN stamps (including three of the 1D Total Liberation stamp) for an overall postage of 3.40D mailed from Ho Chi Minh City to Huntington Beach, CA in November of 1979. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Huntington Beach arrival cancel on the reverse.

Another, very rare registered letter featuring the souvenir-sheet on woven paper and lighter frame colors along with a number of other NVN stamps (including three of the 6xu stamps in different color tones) for an overall postage of 6.82D. The letter was sent from Hanoi to Essen in West Germany in February of 1978.

Rare registered express mail letter sent from Haiphong to Klewitz in August of 1978. It carries the 1 Dong stamp. There are also two of the 30 Dong National Liberation Front (Viet Cong) stamps. The currency of the Viet Cong stamps represented the currency of the South Vietnamese Regime and hence was not compatible with the Dong of North Vietnam. Also Viet Cong stamps were, according to postal regulations, not to be used or cancelled in the North. This regulation clearly was disregarded in this particular case. Disregarding the technically invalid Viet Cong stamps the overall postage amounted to 4.28 Dong. Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse.

Air Mail letter mailed from Ho Chi Minh City in August of 1978 to Hong Kong using two of the 2D Total Liberation series plus five of the 1D October Revolution and one of the 12 xu stamps for a total postage of 11.12D.

Very rare registered letter sent to Klewitz in March of 1982. It features a mis-perforated 60 xu stamp where the horizontal perforation was moved downwards and runs across the stamps image. Again error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There are also four of the Total Liberation stamps. The overall postage amounted to 8.31 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Very rare air mail letter sent to Hong Kong in August of 1979. It carries a pair of the 12 xu stamp without the black printing run. The pair is also im-perfroated in-between the two stamps. There is also one of the 6 xu Total Liberation stamps. The overall postage amounted to 1.62 Dong.

Rare express mail letter sent from Hai Phong to Klewitz in August of 1978. it caries a number of different color variations (including the blue stem and blue pistil variations) of the flower stamps plus the 6 xu value of the Total Liberation set. Another rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in November of 1978. It carries different color variations of the 5 xu and 10 xu stamp of the other flower series plus a block of four each of the 6 xu and 12 xu stamps with identical plate errors (red lines running across the bottom two stamps). There are also two of the 50 xu stamps of the Total Liberation set. Rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in November of 1978. It carries three of the 6 xu stamps without the name of the designer at the bottom plus many other flower stamps. There is also the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamp. The overall postage amounted to 4.02 Dong. Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Rare express mail letter sent from Bac Lieu to Klewitz in March of 1979. It carries a number of the flower stamps but also four of the National Liberation Front (NFL) stamps and one of the 2 xu Total Liberation stamps. Two of the stamps (First Meeting of the Unified National Assembly) were already issued based on the North Vietnamese currency which made them eligible for postage in the North, however, the 30 Dong flag stamp and the 30 Dong Ho Chi Minh stamp which were still in the old South Vietnamese currency were not officially allowed for postage and should not have been recognized. Ignoring the invalid 30 Dong stamp the overall postage amounted to 4.97 Dong. Fulda custom cachet on front.

Rare express mail letter sent from Hai Phong to Klewitz in June of 1979. It carries both inscription color versions of the 12 xu flower stamp in pairs plus a pair of the olive-green 6 xu stamps with the missing designer name at the bottom.  There is also one of the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps. The overall postage amounted to 4.92 Dong. Fulda arrival cancel on the reverse.

It carries a number of the flower stamps including a pair of the green-olive 6 xu value without the designer name and another pair with the blue pistils. There are also three of the Total Liberation stamps. Rare registered letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz in October of 1980. It carries a variety of NVN stamps including a strip of four 10 xu flower stamps that show significant color variations. It also features a 50 xu National Liberation stamp issued in 1971. There is also the 50 xu Total Liberation stamp. NFL stamps were not valid in North Vietnam as the currency used by the Viet Cong in the South was not compatible with the currency used in the North. The stamp was nevertheless accepted by the postal clerk. Without the NLF stamp the postage amounted to 2.50 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in August of 1981. It carries the 10 xu flower stamp in many different color variations. It also carries two of the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps. The overall postage amounted to 8.28 Dong. The zero money red free frank was required to print the registration label as it came out of the same machine. Unusual red cancel. Fulda green custom cachet on front.

Here is a very rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in July of 1981 that carried the entire Five Year Plan set and the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamp. It also carries a pair of the 12 xu (Michel Nr. 1036A) that is im-perforated. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The letter also carries the two versions of the 12 xu (Michel Nr. 1033A) stamp with different perforation. The overall postage (including the red free frank for 5.94) amounted to 13.90 Dong. Registered letter sent to Klewitz in August of 1981. It carries four blocks of four of the Five Year Plan 12 xu value plus a number of the Total Liberation stamps. The left and right most block are of the first printing while the middle blocks of four are the second printing. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 8.21 Dong. Rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in July of 1981. It carries a block of nine of the green/yellow Five Year Plan 12 xu stamp that is grossly mis-perforated. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There is also a 3 Dong National Liberation Front stamp from 1970. The currency used by the NLF in the South was not compatible with the currency of the North. As a result these stamps were not valid postage there. Nevertheless it appears that the postal clerk was not aware of this fact and hence he/she accepted the 3 Dong stamp in full. The cover also carris four of the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps. The overall postage including the NLF stamp was 13.96 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in October of 1981. The letter carries a large number of the Five Year Plan stamps plus the 3 xu Total Liberation stamp for an overall postage of 7.90 Dong (excluding the military free franks). The letter also carries two military free franks that were only valid for domestic postage as they do not carry a nominal value. The 12 xu value shows various color and paper variations.

Registered letter sent to Klewitz in February of 1982. Th eletter carris three of the Five Year Plan 12 xu stamps with the white “12” and one stamp with the black over-printed “12”. There are also two 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps. The overall postage amounted to 8.22 Dong. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Rare registered express mail letter sent to Klewitz in September of 1980. It also carries a number of the Year of the Child stamps plus a 30 xu National Liberation Front (Vietcong) stamp. Due to the fact that NFL (Vietcong) stamps were based on the South Vietnamese Dong NFL stamps were not allowed as postage in North Vietnam. This is the reason why the postal clerk did not cancel the stamp. There are the 1 Dong Total Liberation stamp. The overall postage of the letter (excluding the NFL stamp) amounted to 3.70 Dong.

Registered letter sent in May of 1981 from Quan 5 (Cholon) to West Germany. It carries two pairs of the Socialist Republic 6 xu stamp that shows a variation in the size of the star. The left pair features a small star while the right pair features a large star. Also not the color variations on the brown/ochre color. There is also the 3 xu Total Liberation stamp. The overall postage amounted to 8.21 Dong.

Rare registered express mail letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in March of 1981. The letter carries six stamps from the Fish plus the 1 Dong Total Liberation stamp. There also is a military free frank that was issued in 1973 (in the rare version with perforation 12.5). Military free franks were not valid for international postage due to the fact that they did not carry any nominal value. Nevertheless it appears that the postal clerk accepted the stamp with a face value of 12 xu (which corresponded to the standard domestic letter rate). The overall postage amounted to 4.80 Dong. It carries a wide variety of the 1977, 1978 and 1980 Flower stamps for an overall postage of 13.54 Dong (including the black free frank for 8.4 Dong). Strip of four of the Lotus stamp in post master perforation 9.5 on white paper. There are also a number of the 1977 and 1978 Flower stamps. It carries the Lotus stamp in a number of perforations and paper (pair Perf 9.5 on yellowish paper, strip of three Perf. 11 on yellowish paper, pair Perf 9.5 on white paper, im-perfroated stamp on white paper). Post master perforations and im-perfroated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There are also a range of the Flower stamps from 1977/78. 2 Dong Total Liberation stamp on the reverse. It carries a wide variation of the post master perforation set of the Lotus stamp (block of four Perf.8-9, block of six Perf. 15 on white paper, block of seven Perf. 14 on yellowish paper and a single Per. 11). Registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Cholon) to Klewitz in December of 1981. It carries two stamps from the Independence set with sheet numbers. Stamp with sheet numbers on postally used cover are rare. There is also a military free frank issued in 1970. Since it did not carry a nominal value it was not valid for international postage but it appears that the postal clerk was not aware of that. Two 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps on the reverse. The overall postage (including ther free frank that was worth 12 xu) amounted to 8.32 Dong.

Stamp with sheet numbers on postally used cover are rare.  There are also there of the Lotus stamps with post master perforations of 14 and 15 (yellowish paper) and one with perforation 15 (white paper). Two 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps o the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 8.32 Dong.

Registered Letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz in July of 1981. The letter carries half of the perforated Flower set plus one of the 3 xu Total Liberation stamps for an overall postage of 7.93 Dong (including the red free frank of 4.5 Dong). Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

Air mail letter that carries the two 12 xu and 20 xu Flower values im-perforated and was mailed to Klewitz in October of 1981. There is also an im-perfroated 40 xu Farm Animal stamp on the reverse. 2 xu and 6 xu Total Liberation stamps on the reverse. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage amounted to 2.92 Dong.

Air mail letter sent from Nguyen Trai to Klewitz in March of 1982. The letter carries half of the im-perforated Fish set plus some of the Total Liberation stamps for an overall postage of 2.70 Dong. Im-perforated stamps on postally used cover are very rare.

Rare registered express mail letter sent from Quan 5 (Ho Chi Minh City) on March 16th, 1981 to Klewitz. Interestingly the post office still struck the red First Day Cancel that was prepared for this issue. It features three of the 20 xu KPdSU stamps. The left stamp is normal. The middle stamp shows a significant passer-shift of the yellow and turquoise color to the bottom and the right stamp shows a passer-shift of the yellow and turquoise color to the left and bottom. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There are also three of the Total Liberation stamps for an overall postage of  14.30 Dong (including the red free frank of 6 Dong on the reverse). It features a block of four of the 20 xu KPdSU stamp plus two pairs of the the two perforation varieties of the 12 xu Five Year Plan stamp plus one of the 6 xu Total Liberation stamps for an overall postage of 13.90 Dong. It features both color variations of the 50 xu KPdSU stamp plus one of the 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps for an overall postage of 8.20 Dong. The zero money red free frank was required to produce the R-label that came out of the same machine. Red “Franked by Sender” hand stamp. Unusual red cancels. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries the entire perforated Bird set plus two of the Total Liberation stamps for an overall postage of 8.20 Dong. Note that the scan of the reverse looks like that the stamps on the sids have been cut off but this is not the case. They are only hidden under a strip of paper. The zero money red free frank was required to produce the R-label as it came out of the same machine. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries a number of Michel Nr. 1187 stamps that show a range of errors shown in detail above.  Errors stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Two 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps on the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 12.6 Dong (including th red free frank for 5 Dong). Green Fulda custom cachet on the reverse.

Registered letter sent from Quan 5 (Ho Chi Minh City) to Klewitz in January of 1982. The letter carries a strip of three Reforestation stamps (Michel Nr. 1188). The left stamp shows the plate error “stone at HCM’s foot”. Errors stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Three 2 Dong Total Liberation stamps on the reverse. The overall postage amounted to 8.28 Dong.
