Unified Vietnam, The Struggle between Water and Mountain Spirit, January 20th, 1987, Michel Nr. 1769-1776; Eight stamps all with a 3D nominal and printed together in the same sheet were issued in perforation 12 and Imperforate.

Registered air mail letter sent in July of 1987 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the entire perforated and imperforate Water and Mountain Spirit set plus stamps from the Ha Long Bay (Imperforate), Bonsai, National Assembly,Union Congress, Communist Party (souvenir-sheet) and August Revolution (souvenir-sheet) sets.  Souvenir-Sheets and imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Ha Long Bay and August Revolution stamps were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 19.50 oD =1.95 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (122 nD) plus the red free frank for 530 nD for 653.95nD.

Registered air mail letter sent in November of 1987 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries two perforated and one imperforate Water and Mountain Spirits sets plus stamps from the Communist Party (front 5D and all stamps on the reverse Perf. 12.5), Year of Peace, Butterflies and Postal Union sets for an overall postage of 1,301D (including the red free frank for 1167). Air mail letter sent in November of 1987 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the entire imperforate Cham Culture and Water and Mountain Spirit sets for an overall postage of 167D. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare.

Registered air mail letter sent in January of 1988 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries half of the perforated Cacti stamp set plus stamps from the Bird (imperforate), Water and Mountain Spirit, Humane Living plus the military free frank issued in 1987. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Since the military free frank had a 5D nominal it was valid for international postage. Registered air mail letter sent in January of 1988 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the other half of the perforated Cacti stamp and the souvenir-sheet plus stamps from the Insect (imperforate), Water and Mountain Spirit, Humane Living Peace Movement sets. Imperforate stamps and souvenir-sheets on postally used cover are very rare. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 1,225D (including the red free frank for 1,100D. Registered air mail letter sent in September of 1987 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the 5D and 30D value with the plate error “small passer-cross at top right” of the Postal Union set plus stamps from the Butterflies, Old Ships, Year of the Cat, Day Invalids and Water and Mountain Spirit set for an overall postage of 571D (including the red free frank for 496D). Registered air mail letter sent in December of 1987 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries a pair of the Humane Living stamps plus stamps from the Water and Mountain Spirit, Old Ships, October Revolution and  Day f the Child sets.   The Day of the Child  stamp was still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 5 oD =0.5 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong ( 133 nD) plus the red free frank for 1,110 nD for 1,243 nD. Green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries the entire October revolution stamp set plus stamps from the National Assembly, Water and Mountain Spirit and Manned Space Flight sets for an overall postage of 547D (including the red free frank for 290D). There was also one military free frank that was technically not valid for international postage but apparently was nevertheless accepted by the postal clerk.
