Unified Vietnam, ASEAD 9th Asia Games New Delhi, November 19th, 1982, Michel Nr. 1268-1271; Four stamps in nominals of 30xu (2 stamps), 1 Dong and 2 Dong were issued in perforation 11.0. This issue was beset by production problems that are reflected in the large number of plate and production errors. There is also a wide range of color spectrums these stamps come in.

Here is a mint strip of ten stamps (Fields 1-5 and 11-15) in lively cyans-blue color that shows a number of plate errors. The top left stamp shows “dot on lower back of girl”, the top second stamp from the left “large dot on woman’s chest”, the top middle stamp “white beard on girl” and “dot on swimsuit halter”. The top second stamp from the right shows “blue dot on girls calf” and the top right stamp “large dot under E of VIETNAM”. The third and fourth stamp in the bottom row also shows a weak printing of the country name “VIETNAM”.

Here is another mint block of ten (Fields 6-10 and 16-19) that also shows a range of plate errors. The top middle stamp shows “dot in V of VIETNAM”, the top right stamp “blue dot on shoulder of girl” and the bottom left stamp “blue dot left of pagoda”.

Wet color offsets are also known on this issue. They occurred when printing workers stacked still wet sheets on top of each other allowing to transfer some color to transfer to the back of the sheet above. Here is a an off-set of the lilac-brown color on a mint block of four.

Apparently the free frank machine was limited to a maximum of 9.99D which required the application of multiple free franks to satisfy the overall postage. To make the calculation simpler the postal clerk used round numbers instead of the 99xu option. Nice letter documenting this high inflation postal period.

The letter features two blocks of four of the 1D stamp in “light orange-red” base color that also show some of the plate errors featured above (“blue spot on elbow of wrestler”, “partial failure of the orange printing color” and “black dot in head of wrestler”). Plate errors on postally used cover are very rare. There are also stamps from the Harmful Insect set. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 16.80 (including the red free frank for 4D). Registered air mail letter sent from Ho Chi Minh City in September of 1984 to Klewitz that features the rare color shade of dark orange-brown in a pair, a stamp that has significant printing flaws of both colors, a stamp with a double print of the red and black color along with one normal 50xu Karl Marx stamp. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. There are also some ASEAN stamps on the reverse along with other contemporary NVN stamps for an overall postage of 29.42 (including the red free frank for 2.40D). Registered air mail letter sent from Quan 5 to Klewitz in July of 1984. The letter carries four of the 10D Karl Marx stamps in bot  color variations. One stamp shows the lilac color production error detailed above. Error stamps on postally used cover are very rare. Stamps from the Raffael and ASEAD stamp set on the reverse. The overall postage of the letter amounted to 50.90D.

The letter carries the yellow/black Nguyen Trai stamp in different base colors, with an overprint that is too high and the base stamp without overprint.
