Unified Vietnam, Bicyles, May 1st, 1989, Michel Nr. 2022-2028; Seven stamps in nominals of 10D (two stamps), 20D (two stamps), 30D (two stamps) and 50D were issued in perforation 12.75 and imperforate.  Klewitz reports an issuance  date of December 20th, 1988 so the May 1989 date reported by Michel may not be correct. This is supported by postally used letters ex Klewitz which were mailed using these stamps already in March of 1989, well before the reported Michel date.

Stamps sold at Vietnamese post offices had no gum while stamps sold by the official Vietnamese stamp agency were gummed.

The letter carries perforated Bicycle stamps plus stamps from the Off-shore Oil Production, Motorcycles (souvenir-sheet), Union Congress and Parrots (imperforate) sets. Souvenir-sheets on postally used cover are very rare. The Motorcycle souvenir-sheet  was still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The letter carries perforated Bicycle stamps plus stamps from the Off-shore Oil Production (imperforate), Hydro Stations, Water Lilies (imperforate), Tourism and USSR Cooperation sets. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The USSR Cooperation stamp  was still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Lotus stamps  were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing.
