Unified Vietnam, Army 1987; September 23rd, 1987, Michel Nr. M48; A single stamp with a 5D nominal was issued in perforation 11.0. The issuance of the stamp was necessary as the standard domestic letter rate had just been increased from 1D to 5D.

The standard letter rate increased quickly due to very high inflation numbers and was at 15-20D in 1988. This means that the 5D stamp was superfluous after only one year. The letter was stamped with a black “T” (postage due).
