Here is the mint set in both color variations that have become known. The major difference can be seen in the color of the frames that is light in some stamps and dark in others.

These stamps were not officially released imperforate however some imperforate trial proofs have come to market. Here are matching imperforate pairs from the bottom left sheet margin.

Postally used First Day Cover featuring the entire set and sent to Klewitz. The special cancel indicates the actual anniversary date of January 1st, 1989.

Mixed franking of five 1,000D HCM Birthday stamps plus two 300D Cuban Revolution stamps on an international air mail letter sent by the Vietnamese stamp agency Xunhasaba to the Netherlands in January of 1991.

Registered air mail letter sent in February of 1989 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the perforated Cuban Revolution set plus stamps from the USSR Peace Treaty, Dong Da, Parrots (imperforate), Hydro Stations (imperforate), Cambodian National Day, United Nations and older Cuban themed sets. Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The Cuban themed stamps from 1978 were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 0.30 oD = 0.03 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (3,761 nD) plus the red free frank for 8,961.03 nD.

Registered air mail letter sent in March of 1989 as a mixed currency franking from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries the perforated Cuban Revolution set plus stamps from the INDIA Stamp Exhibition, Union Congress, Inter-parlamentarian Union and Ocean Fish sets.  The Ocean Fish stamps from 1980 were still denominated in old Dong while all other stamps were already denominated in new Dong.  The Vietnamese Government conducted a devaluation of the Dong on September 14th, 1985. This meant that all stamps issued prior to this date were only worth one tenth at the time of mailing. The overall postage hence amounted to 1.60 oD = 0.16 nD. plus the stamps in new Dong (2,250 nD) plus the red free frank of 4,120nD for 6,370.16nD. Fragment of the green Fulda custom cachet on front.

The letter carries different color variations and imperforate Cuban Revolution stamps plus stamps from the HAFNIA Airplanes, Communist Party (the rare 11:12.5 perforation) and Cacti sets for an overall postage of 6,779D (including the red free frank for 5,430D). Registered air mail letter sent on April 2nd, 1989 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter carries part of the perforated Turtle set and the perforated souvenir-sheet plus stamps from the Children Drawings, Cuban Revolution and Dong Da sets for an overall postage of 6,610D (including the red free frank for 4,450D). Souvenir-Sheets stamps on postally used cover are very rare. The letter carries perforated Sea Snails stamps plus stamp from the Parrot (imperforate), Hydro Stations, Of-shore Oil Production and Cuban Revolution sets for an overall postage of 6,380D (including the red free frank for 2,860D). Imperforate stamps on postally used cover are very rare.

Registered air mail letter sent as mixed currency franking in December of 1989 from Ho Chi Minh City to Klewitz. The letter features imperforate pairs of the 50xu value of the Friendship set (one of which is lacking the yellow print phase) plus stamps from the ice dancing set from 1989 and other contemporary NVN stamps for an overall postage of 9,760.2D (Including the red free frank for 8,200D). Imperforate stamps (especially phase prints) on postally used cover are very rare. The Friendship stamps were issue prior to the devaluation of the Vietnamese Dong on September 14th, 1985 (10:1) so they were only worth 20xu at the time of mailing.
